Alcohol Causes Violence Conference

A seismic shift of national thinking is urgently needed on violent crime in New Zealand. To date the issue
has been dominated by punitive policies that largely do not work. Years of popularist "solutions" have
given us longer sentences, overflowing prisons but no reduction in violence. We have been looking in the
wrong place, while New Zealand becomes increasingly unsafe.

Addiction Treatment Leadership Day

Matua Raki staff plan and host — in collaboration with NCAT — three leadership days a year (in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch) in coordination with the the Ministry of Health. The leadership forums bring together addiction workforce leaders from different functions: policy, planning, funding, training and education, service management and delivery, consumers and cultural leaders.

Harm Reduction 2010: The Next Generation

These conferences have been held around the world for two decades and, for 2010, harm reduction is returning to the city which hosted the first conference in 1990 – Liverpool, England.

The conference theme for 2010 is ‘Harm Reduction: The Next Generation’. There are now two and a half decades of harm reduction experience. A substantial body of evidence shows the feasibility and effectiveness of harm reduction in a wide variety of social and cultural settings.
