By pushing pause on booze for February hundreds of New Zealanders have helped raise over $40,000 to support young people with alcohol and other drug problems.

“A huge thank you to everyone who participated in febfast 2013 and helped raise much needed money to provide good information so young New Zealanders are better equipped to make good decisions,” febfast coordinator Jackson Wood said.

“In 2013, febfasters raised more per person than ever before – averaging $168 per person – a fantastic outcome. Thanks to the thousand plus people who sponsored febfasters, you guys are pretty cool.

“Our awesome ambassadors get a special mention for leading the febfast charge. They all worked hard to get the message out there that it is okay to push pause on booze,” Mr Wood said.

The funds raised by febfast in 2013 will be used to promote, expand and enhance the Drug Foundation’s youth focused information service Get the Msg! (Get the Message), a free nationwide alcohol and drug information and advice service for young New Zealanders and their families.

“Get the Msg! provides young people with credible and factual health and safety information about drugs in a confidential way, wherever they are at any time of day,” said Mr Wood.

“An expanded youth drug information service means more young people will be getting the information they need in the way they want it, helping them to make better choices.”
